A Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter Saturday rescued a family of five who became stranded in darkness in a West Hills Park.

The family reported at about 9 p.m. that they could not see where to go at El Escorpion Park near Valley Circle Boulevard and Vanowen Street, said the LAFD’s Brian Humphrey. The two adults and three children were not injured.

The LAFD pilot found flat ground in the mountainous terrain to land the helicopter and walked the hikers to the copter for transport to Hale Middle School nearby, Humphrey said.
