Lines to buy lottery tickets were longer than usual Saturday, as Southland residents and others around the country looked for a chance to win Saturday evening’s $535 million Powerball jackpot.
The jackpot climbed after no one bought a ticket matching all six numbers in Wednesday’s draw, which was the 19th draw since the last time someone won the jackpot.
The $535 million total is the eighth-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is 1 in about 293 million, according to the Powerball website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87.
The Powerball game is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
