Plans for a second overnight closure of Topanga Canyon Boulevard near the ocean were cancelled Sunday, because a contractor finished everything already.

“The contractor completed their work this morning,” said Caltrans spokesman Tim Weisberg in an email.

Working from 9 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday, the workers installed a metal mesh over a steep hillside above the road, where fire had burned off bushes that held the cliffside together.

Earlier work had including rock climbers working the poles, to dislodge loose rocks and debris.

The road, also known as State Route 27, will thus remain open Sunday evening.
