A combination of Christmas shoppers and people returning to Southern California after Thanksgiving has jammed traffic on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway from Palm Springs to as far west as Cabazon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A dispatcher in the CHP’s Indio office told City News Service the slowdown was not due to vehicle mishaps or crashes, but to the heavy stream of post-Thanksgiving travelers heading back to the Inland Empire and the greater Los Angeles area.
In and around Cabazon, the congestion was made worse by shoppers coming to and going from the Cabazon Mall outlet stores on Seminole Drive near the 10, the CHP said.
The dispatcher said a car temporarily stalled in one of the lanes for a time, but that vehicle had been moved and the overall impact on the miles of traffic was not significant.
