A fire broke out early Wednesday morning on the roof-top patio of an apartment building in Boyle Heights.
The blaze was reported at 1:16 a.m. at 2931 E. Whittier Blvd., said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took 38 firefighters 14 minutes to knock down the flames, she said.
One resident was being medically evaluated at the scene for a non-fire related medical complaint, she said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
