A pedestrian killed on the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Bell was a homeless man, authorities said Monday.
He was Ivan Garcia Vergara, 26, coroner’s Investigator Kimberley Arnold said.
The incident was reported just before 3 a.m. Sunday on the southbound Long Beach Freeway just south of Slauson Avenue.
A 2015 Toyota Highlander driven by a 47-year-old man was going southbound south of Slauson Avenue when the SUV struck Vergara, who was running across the lanes of traffic, the California Highway Patrol said..
A SigAlert was issued shutting down all southbound 710 lanes just south of Slauson Avenue at about 3:15 a.m. The far right lane was reopened at 4:10 a.m. All lanes were reopened at 4:37 a.m.
