The Los Angeles Dodgers will posthumously honor U.S. Army Spc. Ronnie Joseph Pallares of Rancho Cucamonga as the Military Hero of the Game at Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Pallares enlisted in 2008 at age 17 and served his first deployment to Afghanistan in December 2009 with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was killed by a roadside bomb on Oct. 23, 2010, when he was 19.
Relatives of Pallares are set to be at the game at Dodger Stadium.
Pallares wrote this poem on his deployment, “This is what I wanted to do to make sure you all are free. I have no regrets, no matter what happens from now till then and while I’m here, I will always volunteer to be the one they send.”
