Firefighters Monday battled a greater-alarm blaze inside an L-shaped strip mall in Sylmar, authorities said.

The fire was first reported at 3:47 a.m. at 12777 North San Fernando Rd., Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

Firefighters were working to keep the fire from spreading throughout the mall but they had to get out of the interior and off part of the roof on one section of the L because “the structural integrity of the roof over the fire unit is poor,” Stewart said.

“The common facade leaves the risk of the fire running the entire structure and is being closely monitored for safety,” she said.

No injuries were reported, Stewart said.

More than 100 firefighters were assigned to the blaze, she said.
