A man was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the Artesia (91) Freeway in Bellflower, authorities said Tuesday.
About 9:30 p.m. Monday, the California Highway Patrol began receiving reports of a pedestrian walking on the right shoulder and attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of the Artesia Freeway and minutes later, a 2012 Infiniti in the eastbound No.1 lane collided with the pedestrian, who was crossing the freeway, according to CHP Sgt. S. Weathers.
The man landed in the car pool lane and was struck by at least two other vehicles, one of which fled the scene, Weathers said.
The pedestrian suffered blunt force trauma in the crash and was killed, he said. Neither the driver of the Infiniti, identified as Donavan Gray, 44, of Los Angeles, or the other driver, Henry Chen, 32, of Monrovia, suffered any injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were not a factor with respect to Gray and Chen, but it was unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor with respect to the unidentified driver or pedestrian, Weathers said.
A description of the third vehicle involved was not immediately available.
Anyone who witnessed this incident was asked to call Officer McLaughlin at the CHP’s Santa Fe Springs area office at (562) 868-0503.
