A search is scheduled to resume about 7 a.m. Monday for a 58-year-old man who became separated from his adult son during a hike in the Red Box Trail area north of Altadena, authorities said.
The man was hiking with his son in the trailhead around the Angeles Crest (2) Highway and Mount Wilson Road, Lt. Mark Lopez of the Crescenta Valley sheriff’s station said.
“The son wanted to hike higher and dad said he’d meet him back at the car at the bottom,” Lopez said. The son contacted the sheriff’s department about 6 p.m. to say his father was not at the car when he returned, the lieutenant said.
Search and Rescue teams looked for the man until 2 a.m. and suspended the search because it became too foggy, Lopez said.
They expect to have four teams and aircraft when the search resumes, he said. It is a large area, he said. “You can lose your bearings out there and cell service isn’t good.”
