A home under construction in Monrovia was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning.

Crews responded about 12:35 a.m. to the house in the 700 block of West Colorado Boulevard, just east of Monterey Avenue, according to a dispatcher with the Verdugo Fire Communications Center, which provides fire dispatch services to 12 cities in the San Gabriel Valley.

Some neighbors were forced to evacuate and firefighters had to retreat when the house collapsed as they were pouring water on it, NBC4 reported.

It was unclear how long it took firefighters to extinguish the flames, the dispatcher said.

No injuries were reported. Those evacuated returned home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
