A man killed in a freeway crash in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles was publicly identified Monday.
Hugo Navarrete, 18, was a Los Angeles resident, coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz said.
Two other people suffered critical injuries in the 11:25 p.m. Friday crash on the transition from the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway to the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Navarrete was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
Firefighters freed the critically injured patients from the wreckage, Brian Wall of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Others injured in the crash were treated at the scene and declined hospital transport.
A SigAlert was issued for the westbound Santa Monica Freeway transition to the northbound Golden State Freeway and two of the three lanes of the transition road were closed, but one lane remained open, according to Officer Tony Polizzi of the California Highway Patrol. All lanes reopened about 2:25 a.m. Saturday.
