Los Angeles International Airport announced Friday that utility work on the United Airlines East Aircraft Maintenance Hangar project will close up to two lanes in each direction, starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m., on Saturday at Century Boulevard between Airport Boulevard and Avion Drive, east of LAX.
A maximum of two eastbound and two westbound lanes will be closed and at least two lanes will stay open in each direction. People traveling through the airport are advised to make extra time or use alternative routes during that time.
The maintenance hangar project is billed by LAX as a new “state-of-the-art facility” that will house 23 aircraft with technology that allows plane engines to be powered down during maintenance, reducing emissions.
For people exiting LAX, from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, northbound Sepulveda Boulevard will be closed for repaving between Lincoln Boulevard and Westchester Parkway.
On Sunday, Westchester Parkway will be closed for repaving between Sepulveda Boulevard and Sepulveda Westway, but LAX officials said they do not expect delays from that project.
