Two pedestrians died from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash in the unincorporated Westmont area of Los Angeles County, near South Los Angeles, and the driver was at large Wednesday morning.

The crash was reported about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday at or near the intersection of Normandie Avenue and 95th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a second man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the CHP reported.

Broadcast reports said the vehicle that struck the men was a Mercedes-Benz and the impact of the crash tore the vehicle’s license plate off. The vehicle was located, but the driver was not.
