A big rig that lost two tires on the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway in Gardena Thursday morning sparked several accidents and prompted the closure of four lanes of the freeway for nearly four-and-a-half hours.
Reports began coming in at 1:05 a.m. that the semi had lost tires near the Redondo Beach Boulevard and sparks were coming from the truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The tires and other debris ended up in the road and up to 10 vehicles hit the debris and crashed, the CHP said.
The Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 lanes of the freeway were closed until about 5:30 a.m., the CHP said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries. It was unclear what caused the tires to come off the truck.
