Animal rights activists held a vigil Friday morning for cows that were about to be killed at a slaughterhouse in Pico Rivera.

Members of Los Angeles Animal Save began their vigil at 4 a.m. on the sidewalk outside the Manning Beef slaughterhouse at 9531 Beverly Boulevard.

“The cows are unloaded into holding pens which are right next to the sidewalk where we can be very close to them to give them our love,” according to a post for the vigil on the group’s Facebook page. “We do not stop trucks at this slaughterhouse as it is unnecessary.”

The vigil was scheduled to end at 5 a.m.

The group’s Facebook page described LA Animal Save as “the Los Angeles extension of the Animal Save Movement” and “we hold multiple vigils every month bearing witness to animals.”
