One person was killed, another suffered major injuries and authorities Tuesday sought the driver who lost control of a vehicle that rolled over in unincorporated Los Angeles County east of Palmdale, then fled.
The crash occurred near Longview Road and Avenue S about 9:35 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A gray Toyota sedan was traveling southbound on Longview Road when, for unknown reasons, the driver veered to the right and lost control of the vehicle. The driver then veered left and the Toyota rolled over several times, coming to rest in the northbound lane of Longview Road, the CHP said.
One of the passengers, identified as Jaime Hernandez, 28, of Pacoima, died at the scene. A second passenger, Ricardo Barbosa, 21, of Pacoima, sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital, the CHP said.
The unidentified driver fled, the CHP said.
“Excessive speed, alcohol, and drugs may be a contributing factor for the cause of this collision; however, a thorough investigation is on-going,” the agency said in a statement.
The crash prompted the closure of all lanes of Longview Road between S and T avenues for about 3.5 hours. The road was reopened about 1:30 a.m.
Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call the CHP’s Antelope Valley office at 661-948-8541.
