A car slammed into a power pole in Thousand Palms Tuesday, forcing the closure of nearly five miles of roadway as crews moved downed electrical lines.
The traffic hazard was reported at 7:39 a.m. near the intersection of Washington Street and Thousand Palms Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A grey Mazda sedan hit the power pole, the CHP said, causing power lines to fall onto the roadway, although the pole itself remained standing.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities closed Thousand Palms Canyon, starting at Dillon Road, and again at Washington Street, a nearly five-mile stretch, to allow crews to clean up the lines.
The CHP said the southbound lanes would reopen later Tuesday morning.
