Los Angeles County firefighters battled two brush fires at nearly the same time Saturday.
Two spot fires that grew to a total of up to four acres were reported at 12:47 p.m. on the southbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway south of Newhall, according to LACo Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims.
Flames were out about an hour later, she said.
A second fire was reported at 12:55 p.m. next to the Golden State (5) Freeway at Vista del Lago in Gorman, Sims said.
The blaze consumed more than 20 acres of vegetation before forward progress was halted at 2:36 p.m., she said. Two right lanes remained closed, according to Caltrans.
