Firefighters made quick work Friday of a fire in a vacant home behind a church in the Exposition Park area, and no injuries were reported.
Crews responded to the fire in the 1100 block of 39th Street, near Budlong Avenue, at 5:32 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the approximately 1,000-square-foot structure, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to the church and a knockdown was called at 5:51 a.m., she said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
