Caltrans was called Sunday to clean up a fuel spill that poured from a big rig gas tank at 2:15 a.m. along the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic, California Highway Patrol officials said.
About 100 gallons of diesel escaped from the vehicle when the tank was punctured, according to Officer Patrick Kimball of the CHP’s Traffic Management Center.
Firefighters arrived just before 2:50 a.m, to assist the damaged 150-gallon tanker truck, according to Martin Rangel, a dispatcher with the L.A. County Fire Department.
A county fire HAZMAT team was also called to help with the spill response, he said.
