T-Mobile customers nationwide, including in the Los Angeles area, experienced phone service outages Monday that affected calling and texting services for at least 12 hours.
The outage started shortly after 9 a.m., and as late as 9 p.m. the phone service provider was still working to fix the problem. The number of customers affected in the Los Angeles area was not immediately available.
“We are recovering from this now but it may take several more hours before customers calling and texting is fully recovered,” T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert said in a statement Monday night.
“This is an IP traffic related issue that has created significant capacity issues in the network core throughout the day.”
Customers were able to use data services during the outage, and calling and messaging on apps like FaceTime, iMessage, Skype, Zoom and Signal were available.
T-Mobile had hundreds of engineers and staff working to resolve the issue, and Sievert said they would work through the night if needed.
