A pair of brushfires each scorched about a half-acre of grass in Montecito Heights Saturday.

The first blaze was reported around 6 p.m. in the 4200 block of Mercury Avenue, where 38 firefighters extinguished it in 16 minutes, said Nicholas Prange, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

The second brusher ignited about 9:20 p.m. near 400 E. Montecito Drive. The department dispatched 46 firefighters and extinguished the fire in 31 minutes, Prange said.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened in either fire, he said.

The cause of the fires remained under investigation.
