A car crashed into a tree in Chatsworth Monday, leaving the driver dead and a passenger critically injured, authorities said.
The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. in the 21600 block of West Marilla Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver, a man in his 20s who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.
The survivor was freed from the wreckage by firefighters and taken to a hospital in critical condition, the LAFD reported.
The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
