A 23-year-old woman was critically injured Saturday while hiking near West Hills.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 11:23 a.m. to the 6300 block of North Valley Circle Boulevard, where a hoist operation was conducted to retrieve the injured hiker, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Paramedics rushed the woman by air ambulance to an area hospital in critical condition with a heat-related illness, Stewart said.
