A home under construction in the Florence area was damaged Tuesday morning by a fire that threatened a home, duplex, motel and commercial building nearby.

Firefighters responded to the 100 block of East 84th Place, near Main Street, at 3:17 a.m., according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 62 firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in 33 minutes and a knockdown was called at 3:50 a.m., Prange said.

The duplex sustained minor fire damage to the outside of the structure, but the other buildings were spared, he said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
