Power was restored Thursday morning to 9,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers in Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys after a fire in a power distributing station, but about 3,000 customers remained offline.
Power was shut off to approximately 12,000 customers about 2:30 a.m. when the distributing station was de-energized while Los Angeles firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, the DWP said.
About 5 a.m., the DWP announced 9,000 customers had their power restored, but about 3,000 customers, mostly in Valley Glen, remained without electricity. The DWP did not give an estimated time of when affected customers would be back online.
Details of what sparked the fire were not immediately available.
