County firefighters knocked down a second-alarm brushfire Sunday in Malibu Creek State Park that scorched about 75 acres of grass and forced the evacuation of all campsites.

The blaze which ignited near 1925 Las Virgenes Road about 1:20 p.m. and was 70% contained, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The department sent 14 engines as well as hand crews, water-dropping helicopters, and water tankers to battle the blaze, Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores said.

Firefighters stopped forward progress of the fire around 3:30 p.m., she said.

Malibu Canyon and Las Virgenes roads have reopened, but Mulholland Highway is still closed, the sheriff’s department reported.

No injuries were reported and no structures were burned.
