Firefighters Saturday were fighting a brushfire along the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Palmdale that has affected traffic.
The fire was reported about 3:45 p.m. around Subida Avenue and Rayburn Road , said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo.
The fire was first reported at two acres and it spread to seven acres before forward progress was stopped around 4:25 p.m., Marrujo said. It was later mapped at a little more than 12 acres as mop-up continued.
A helicopter made a couple of water drops before it was released, he said.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 4:30 p.m., shutting down all northbound and southbound lanes of the Antelope Valley Freeway between Palmdale Boulevard and Avenue S to accommodate fire equipment and due to heavy smoke. The smoke cleared and the freeway was reopened about 5 p.m.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, Marrujo said.
