A pedestrian fatally struck in the Florence area of unincorporated South Los Angeles was identified Saturday as a South Gate resident.
Antonio Moncada was 64 years old, according to coroner’s Lt. David Smith.
Moncada was struck at around 7 p.m. Friday on Firestone Boulevard east of Zamora Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer P. Trinidad. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian now identified as Moncada walked north from the south sidewalk of Firestone directly into the path of a 2001 Mercedes-Benz driven by a 19-year-old Los Angeles man, Trinidad said.
The driver reportedly suffered moderate injuries but no information was available as to whether he was taken to a hospital.
The investigation was ongoing, the officer said.
