A motorcyclist was killed when he rear-ended a Tesla Model Y vehicle on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Irwindale, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The crash, west of Irwindale Avenue, occurred at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, the CHP reported.

The motorcyclist, a 30 year-old resident of La Verne, was riding a 2019 Suzuki GSXR 750 eastbound on the 210 Freeway approaching the Tesla, and had reduced his speed to a near stop due to traffic ahead.

The motorcyclist, whom officials said was driving at an unsafe speed, rear-ended the Tesla and was ejected from his bike in a southerly direction, landing in the number-three lane, where he was struck by the left rear tire of an approaching big rig.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:54 p.m. It was unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The CHP’s Baldwin Park office urged anyone who saw the crash to call them at 626-338-1164.
