Fire destroyed a structure behind a single-family home in San Pedro Monday evening and burned for 31 minutes before firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.

Crews responded to the 2200 block of South Gaffey Street, near West 22nd Street, at 9:25 p.m. and found the structure fully involved with fire, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 30 firefighters kept the flames from spreading to nearby homes and a knock down was called at 9:56 p.m., Prange said.

Initial reports that someone may have been inside the burning structure turned out to be false as all persons were accounted for and no one was found during a search of the structure by firefighters, Prange said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
