A man was critically injured Friday afternoon while doing repair work beneath a big rig at Los Angeles Cold Storage in downtown Los Angeles.

About 2:20 p.m., at the frozen food warehouse in the 400 block of South Central Avenue, a portion of the tractor, which was being unloaded, “apparently fell upon him,” causing him severe head trauma, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The man, who Humphrey said may be a mobile mechanic, was taken to a trauma center in critical condition.

Officials with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which investigates workplace accidents, were on their way to the scene shortly after 3 p.m., Humphrey said.
