Spectators will do the driving and the floats won’t move during Saturday evening’s COVID-19 edition of the Downtown Pomona Christmas Parade.

Titled “Dashing Thru Downtown,” the parade is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting at 400 E. Mission Blvd., according to the Downtown Pomona website.

It will travel along Third Street west to Park Avenue, then proceed north on Park Avenue and right on Second Street, ending at the intersection of Second Street and Garey Avenue.

Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is honored as Grand Marshal for this year, organizers said. The distinction is in gratitude for all the sacrifices the hospital’s staff has made this year.

All spectators are required to wear face masks and reservations were required for each vehicle, organizers said. The website indicated that the event was sold out Saturday afternoon.

Several streets were closed in the afternoon in preparation for the parade: Elm Street between Mission Boulevard and Third Street, Third Street between Elm Street and Park Avenue, Park Avenue between Third and Second streets and Second Street between Park Avenue and Garey Avenue.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the northbound and southbound lanes of Garey Avenue between Mission Boulevard and Monterey Avenue will close. All streets should reopen at about 10 p.m., officials said.
