Eight cats died in the heat and smoke and up to five cats were unaccounted for from a fire that damaged a Winnetka home Friday.
The fire was reported at 4:06 a.m. at 20453 W. Rodax St., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
Flames were showing from the front door when firefighters arrived, Humphrey said.
The fire appeared to have originated in the kitchen of the 1,300 sq. foot, single-story home and it spread into the living room, he said.
The flames were out at 4:23 a.m. and firefighters were able to save two cats, Humphrey said. No human injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.
