Fire broke out in a second-floor apartment in the Florence area of Los Angeles Tuesday morning, but firefighters kept it from spreading through the building.

The fire was reported just before 3 a.m. at 5937 S. Avalon Blvd., said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.

The E-shaped building was described as apartments over commercial, Stewart said. Occupants were sheltering in place, she said.

The 62 firefighters assigned to the call put out the flames in 20 minutes, confining the damage to the apartment of origin and preventing flames from getting to the attic, Stewart said.

No injuries were reported, she said.
