A driver was hoisted to rescue Thursday in Malibu after being thrown from her vehicle and going about 100 feet over the side of the road into a canyon.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on Malibu Canyon Road near the Pacific Coast Highway, said supervisor Imy McBride with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The driver suffered “minor to moderate” injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu Search and Rescue Team.

A fire department helicopter hoisted the driver from the canyon and flew her to a trauma center.
