Firefighters extinguished a small brush fire that scorched an estimated acre of grass in Lake View Terrace Sunday.

The blaze near 12480 W. Filmore St., alongside the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway and east of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway, was reported at 4:15 p.m. The fire was believed to have started at a homeless encampment fire where embers were blown into the brush by a 20 mph wind, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The wind-driven embers also did a small amount of exterior damage to a nearby one-story commercial building, Humphrey said.

The department sent 60 firefighters to the scene and they knocked down the flames in about 30 minutes, he said.

No injuries were reported and the investigation into the cause was ongoing, he said.
