Firefighters Saturday evening contained a quarter-acre brushfire in vegetation next to the Golden State Freeway at Stadium Way in Elysian Park, preventing it from damaging hilltop homes.
The fire was first reported at 7:36 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
Two palm trees were burning and there were homes on the hilltop above the fire scene, Humphrey said.
No evacuations were needed and firefighters had the flames contained by lines of cleared vegetation within 20 minutes, he said.
Ground crews remained to put out the remaining flames and a helicopter flew overhead to watch for hot spots, Humphrey said.
