Fire ripped through the detached garage of a home in Sunland Thursday evening, causing damage to two vehicles and some overhanging tree branches before being extinguished.

Firefighters responded at 9:23 p.m. to 10714 Plateau Drive, near Foothill Boulevard, and found the structure fully involved with fire and flames threatening nearby trees, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews initially thought the fire was in a home on the property, but later determined it was in a garage in front of the house, Prange said.

A total of 22 firefighters extinguished the flames and a knock down was called at 9:45 p.m., Prange said.

No one was inside the garage at the time of the fire and firefighters were able to keep the flames from damaging nearby homes, he said.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
