A worker was killed Thursday in an apparent electrocution at the site of a fire that damaged a high-rise building under construction in West Los Angeles.

The fire was reported about 12:10 p.m. in the 12100 block of West Olympic Boulevard, at Bundy Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in about a half-hour, the LAFD reported. The building has about three stories constructed.

“Rebar became electrically energized, injuring three workers and igniting the structure,” Nicholas Prange of the LAFD said in a statement.

“Two of the workers self-evacuated prior to firefighter arrival and a third, sadly, perished,” Prange said.

Utility crews were sent to the scene to ensure the area was de-energized before firefighters could assist with the recovery of the body, Prange said.

Two patients were taken to a hospital in unknown condition. The circumstances of the death were under investigation.
