A city of Los Angeles trash truck caught fire Tuesday in a North Hollywood alley and flames spread to a utility pole but not to nearby homes.
The fire was reported at 2:38 p.m. at 6638 N. Elmer Ave., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey.
Firefighters contained the blaze before it could spread to nearby homes, Humphrey said. The trash truck operator was able to escape unharmed.
Firefighters were left to put out the flames in the trash inside the truck and were allowing liquefied natural gas leaking from the truck’s fuel tank to burn “in a safe and controlled manner until the fuel is exhausted,” Humphrey said.
