The Port of Long Beach announced Monday it will begin accepting applications on Wednesday for its Community Sponsorship Program, which funds nonprofit events and activities that benefit Long Beach and educate the public about the maritime industry.
The Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a $1 million budget to provide sponsorships during the 2022 fiscal year. The funding is given out twice a year, and last May, commissioners gave $409,430 to 141 local groups involved in the arts, environment, social justice and historic preservation.
Within about 60 days of the application period opening Sept. 1 and closing on Sept. 30, recommendations will be sent to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for a decision.
The applicants’ events must take place on or after Dec. 1 in order to be eligible for sponsorship.
