Firefighters prevented a large-scale fire at an automotive tire shop from reaching an adjacent apartment complex Saturday in Los Angeles.
Two residents of the nearby two-story apartment building were awakened and guided to safety as 49 firefighters knocked down the blaze in 26 minutes, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Fire crews were called at 1:51 a.m. to 6229 S Main St. and encountered a large outdoor pile of tires on fire and began a defensive operation to contain and extinguish the flames before they reached the apartment complex, Humphrey said.
Humphrey said no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
