Lifeguards searching the ocean near Redondo Beach for a person believed to have been aboard a small boat that capsized found no sign of the missing boater and called off the search Tuesday.
Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards responded at about 8:45 p.m. Monday to a report of a capsized dinghy with one person aboard outside the Redondo Beach Harbor, according to a department statement.
Lifeguards, along with personnel from the Redondo Beach police and fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted an extensive land, sea and air search, but came up empty and the search was concluded at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Boat patrols were heightened in the area following the conclusion of the search to keep watch for any sign of the missing person, according to LACoFD lifeguards.
