Authorities Monday identified an 18-month-old boy who was killed when a vehicle that was involved in a traffic crash hit him and a woman in the North Hills area of Los Angeles.
Gerardo Chavez Morales of North Hills was injured about 7:35 a.m. Sunday in the 15500 block of West Nordhoff Street and died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles Police and fire departments.
According to police and reports from the scene, a Honda CRV collided with a Toyota Camry, the driver of which did not stop. The Honda then jumped a curb and hit the boy and the woman, who were near a food cart, ABC7 reported.
The woman was not related to the child, who was with his grandparents and in a stroller when he was struck, Channel 7 reported. The woman was treated for serious injuries.
The Honda driver remained at the scene. The Toyota driver later surrendered to police, but no arrests had been reported as of Monday morning, police said. The investigation was continuing.
