A fire burned through the roof of a commercial building housing a possible marijuana grow operation in the Canoga Park area Monday, leaving three men hospitalized with burns, authorities said.
Firefighters sent to the 8400 block of North Canoga Avenue about 12:20 p.m. extinguished the flames in an hour and 15 minutes, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
Three men described as “civilians” were burned, two critically and one seriously, the LAFD reported.
Some possible explosions were reported from inside the single-story building as the flames raged and sent a thick plume of black smoke into the air, according to the LAFD.
About 150 firefighters were sent to the scene, transitioning into a defensive operation to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings.
Traffic was routed away from the location as a precaution, but no evacuations were ordered, the LAFD reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
