Southland metal band System of a Down announced Thursday the postponement of its pair of shows scheduled for this weekend at Banc of California Stadium, with frontman Serj Tankian confirming he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The band had been set to perform Friday and Saturday in shows also featuring Korn, Helmet and Russian Circles.

“After having three really fun shows, I got back to LA with flu-like symptoms,” Tankian wrote on his Instagram page. “I am shocked that it could even be Covid as I am not just vaccinated but also incredibly careful. I am so sorry to have to push these dates yet again, especially to those who made sacrifices to be here from out of town.

“Touring is not something I intend to continue doing down the line so these handful of shows have meant the world to me. Thank you for your love and understanding.”

The concerts have been rescheduled for Feb. 4 and 5. All tickets will be honored on the rescheduled dates, but ticketholders will also be given a refund option.

The shows were originally scheduled for May 2020, but were postponed due to the pandemic. They were reset for May of this year, but postponed again.
