A woman was found dead following a fire at a mobile home in Chatsworth Tuesday.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded about 5:30 p.m. to the mobile home in the Valle Verde Mobile Home Park at 20652 Lassen St., between Mason and De Soto avenues, on reports of the fire, according to the department’s Margaret Stewart.

The fire was extinguished in 26 minutes by 31 firefighters despite excessive storage conditions that made it difficult for firefighters to access the flames. The knockdown was called about 6 p.m.

Fire crews searched the home after extinguishing the flames and, after initially clearing the structure of any signs of an occupant, found a woman after digging through about four feet of debris, Stewart said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of her next of kin.

Two other possible occupants were reported to have possibly vacated the home before the fire broke out, but their whereabouts were unknown and firefighters were continuing to search the home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
