A construction vehicle struck a natural gas line in Moreno Valley Thursday, rupturing it and causing a leak that firefighters mitigated until technicians arrived to make repairs.

The line was punctured about 11:55 a.m. outside a business in the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, near Heacock Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that two engine crews were sent to the location and discovered that a backhoe driver had hit the line while digging at the site.

Firefighters shut off the gas and requested SoCal Gas Co. technicians to make repairs.

No evacuations were ordered.

A repair crew arrived at 12:20 p.m. and began mending the line. The operation was expected to be completed by 2 p.m.
